Hi all,

Just happened to notice these guys a couple of nights ago. They appeared after the lights went out. There were a total of 5. They are about 6-8 mm and curl up when I touch. I couldn't suck them out with a turkey baster, had to scrape out from the rock. The one in the picture is already dead, so I am not sure if they will have that brownish red color when alive. Are these friends or bad guys? Should I be worried. I have a small mandarin gobi, but I am not sure if this what they usually eat. Ideas?

Thanks
Indu

Chiton. Good algae eaters. Hopefully you didn't kill them when you scraped them from the rock.

They're like underwater potato bugs.

I don't think I have many in there. How do they get in the tank anyway? I haven't added them myself.

They come in as hitchhikers on live rock.

I have them all over in my systems, as well as many other animals that are good for a healthy reef. In fact, 99.9% of all the species in our tanks are generally helpful and good. It's part of the enjoyment of this hobby to watch new things appear. Thumbs Up
