Topic: Removing gsp Posted: July 16 2017 at 5:27pm |
I'm setting up a new tank and I have a piece of rock I really like from my other tank that I moved over. I scraped off all I could and then covered it in kalk paste and left it out in this 90+ degree sun for a few days.... now it's been in my tank cycling and it looks like the polyps are growing back. Anyone have other suggestions for getting rid of it?

I'd trash the rock, personally.
There is some experimental stuff to remove Xenia. Some people that have done it have also lost all their GSP. Maybe research Xenia removal to find the article. I plan on trying it soon once I move my higher end stuff into another system- just to be safe.

Worst case scenario I'd either trade or give away the rock I don't see a reason to throw it away. Was thinking maybe taking a pressure washer to it would scrape off any remainders

I don't see how a pressure washer would do more than not having water, sitting in the sun, etc.

It would at least help in removing any of the remaining tissue. It seems like any that was left from before is slowly coming back to life....

I use a wire brush wheel on my drill and get down into the holes in the rock. Then while the rock is wet put straight kalk powder on the area and let it sit for a few hours. That is generally enough in my experience.

Remove gsp? It's like crushing the dreams of a child. My soul hurts.

I just didn't want it in the new tank.. I like it in the tank i have it in currently its just growing like crazy. I do feel bad i probably should have just traded the rock to someone who wants it in their tank

If all you've done so far was not successful, I'd suggest trading it away. Good luck!
