I got a midas blenny about three days ago. At the store he would swim all over the tank, from the top to the bottom, and even hide out for a very brief moment before doing his aquatic acrobats all over again.  Since being in the tank, he has been sitting in the exact same spot for three days, with the exception of feeding time where he is quite fast and elegant. Today, after the food was gone, he decided to launch himself from my tank. Fortunately i was still around to here the splash.  I put him back in, and now worried that an even more stress is added on top of his tank arrival. Well, question is.  Is this behavior of complete hiding all day in the same spot wedged behing a rock normal for being in a new tank after three-4 days?  Also, since I only have a 30 gallon, Im a little worried that I got a fish that is going to add to my bioload, but not to the tanks personality

Note, I only have a true percula, and a few peppermint shrimp. Im worried that he jumped, and worried that HE is worried.  I want my fish to be happy

Yes that is normal for a Midas Blenny. They are jumpers for sure. It may take him a month to get cofortable and start swimming in the open.

Sounds like it's time for you to join the top screen club.  Here's the link on how to make one.  http://www.rareclownfish.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4552#post4552 - http://www.rareclownfish.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4552#post4552
It's all too common for blennys and gobies to jump though.  And yes it may take a little time for the blenny to warm up to the tank, but some stay shy.
My new canary blenny was surprisingly happy to be in my tank.  He was out swiming around after a couple hours and is now one of my favorite fish in that tank.

If you decide you don't want the blenny... I've been looking for one for a while.  Wink

Hah, thanks. I will give him a few weeks.   And hopefully i can get the screen done before he decides to take his own life.  If he decides that my 30 gal is too small and he just wants to hide out all the time all let you know about upgrading to your mini ocean.

Cool.  I really hope he cheers up and stays in the tank.  They are awesome little guys.

I completely agree, it took my midas about a week before he would swim around and not hide...........they are great fish once they get passed the shy stage.

Well after coming around from the jumping incident he has been sitting on my glass float, and the percula has been hosting him, haha.  I think he has been hiding for the three days, and homie my perc. (went from omen *nemo backwards* to omie to homie) is swimming on top of him and gently caressing him.  I hope they become friends. My perc is ever so lonely.

Also since he's a fang blenny can he do much damage to my perc?

Midas Blennys are NOT fang blennys. Check out the January 2007 SeaStar Fish of the Month article.

Well, thats good.  I like the magazine, and that was an interesting article you sent me to Mike.   The author seems like a very smart person. ;)  smarter than my LFS who told me he was a fang blenny and then tried to point out his fangs, as i stood there nodding my head, and mentally thinking they must be pretty small because i cant see them.

well here is the video of the homie the perc getting a rub down session on him. It starts around 40 seconds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fD_nXjQYgsg - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fD_nXjQYgsg

That is SO cute!
Looks like you picked a good one.  Thumbs%20Up
I'd still put a screen on just in case.

I'm guessing the clown is not trying to make friends. But, it seems mostly harmless.

Cool video.
