Hey friends.

I'm super new to the salt water hobby, and I need some advise. I have a 42 gal. main tank, and I have a 10 gal tank to use for a sump. Is the 10 gal. going to be enough? Is there a "rule of thumb" or some equation for tank vrs sump size? Any advise would be appreciated. I have already started building the sump, and just need to silicone the baffles in place.

Thanks,

Aaron from Stansburypark

If you are going to run a skimmer, then the sump needs to be big enough to hold the skimmer...

If a tank bigger than a 10g can fit inside your stand - I am assuming that is where your sump will be going - then I personally would go bigger.

Maybe a 20g?
