We moved the contents of a friends tank to my empty tank..  See this thread

http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=49860

Over the past few days Ammonia has been high..  I've double dosed with Aquavitro Alpha the past two nights.  I also did a 25% water change Tuesday night.

It just doesn't seem like it's helping much.  Most of the watermelon mushroom polyps appear to be dead...  The two fish seem to be ok..  The anemones look ok..  Some better than others.  Several of my different polyps look ok, not great, but ok..  I thought today would be better because the toadstool mushroom had polyps out all over it all day.. But I just finished testing and ammonia is even higher..  1.0 ppm.

My worry is that dosing with the Alpha is just delaying the inevitable..  Obviously the tank is cycling..  I've taken small frags of polyps out and put them in my nano in case things get too bad..

What else can I do?  Should I keep dosing with the Alpha?

do you have Macroalgae? this helps alot to lower those levels. how did you move your rocks did you exposed them to the air? did you used your old sand or new sand? what are your levels?

Did you move the sand and use it? If not do you have the live rock in there and did you keep it under water during the move?

We moved the rock wet..  Admittedly, I think we used too much of the sand.  I do have some macroalgea, a pretty good sized ball of chaeto..  Could probably use more though..

Well if you have a bunch of stuff dying in there that will spike your ammonia as well. If you used more than the top inch of the live sand without rinsing it you may have major problems, believe me I would know I made that mistake and nuked my whole tank:(

I have a skimmer, but it's not set up yet. I'm not sure how.. It's in pieces.. I can figure it out in the morning and get it going. I'm sitting in the harry potter movie right now.. I just dosed again with the alpha before I left.

Get that skimmer going asap! It will help pull out a bunch of the nasty stuff if it is dying. Mushrooms will melt when they are dying so if they are just closed up they are just not happy. But an anemone that is dieing can foul your whole tank especially without a skimmer.

Shad I am partly to blame thinking that we should add more sand, I can come over and give you some calpura. That will help with the ammonia. If you still have my number call me today and I will come over.  I will pm you my number just in case.
