It looks like a little slime, or vermatid snail netting that came loose when they were attempting to feed. I wouldn't worry about it.

Ann- It's an Acropora sp.

Ok, that's what I thought, but as I'm not experienced with SPS or LPS, I wasn't sure. That probably is from snails... My snails once in a while leave trails, but it is usually just blown away by flow. Hope everything is fine!

Just another tidbit: Acros will often brown out when they get introduced to a new tank. It will regain its color over the next 6 months or so.

Don't worry about it....this is simply a feeding response for this typical coral.....now the argument is....is it responding this way from stress of flying food particles or does it respond this way to grab food....this has been debated all over reefcentral....regardless many of my acros do this when I feed any frozen (mysis, etc.), it is nothing to worry about.

Yes, your coral is browned out, but again I wouldn't worry about.....browned out corals RARELY die...they just don't flourish....a bleached coral is much more of a concern....get your water quality up and improve lighting if possible....time is all it needs

Good luck

Now I have time to provide more info:
The slime coat on coral is for capturing extremely fine particle food to allow digestion and absorption. Nitrogen compounds and larger substances actually stick to the slime, transfer through it and absorb into the flesh of the animal.
In other circumstances the slime is for protection, like when a coral slimes when it is touched and especially when it is removed from the water. The slime keeps the animal moist to survive the low tide.
Finally, sloughing off slime is the way coral shed waste. Eating, followed closely by pooping, is very common among all animals.
Smile It's all a part of healthy coral activity. Thumbs Up
