Than to put water in it and try it out I'm just using a 20 long fora sump divided into 3 chambers I'm also using 2 brs reactors one for carbon and one for gfo

How did you do the drink rail on the stand?

Posted By: Krazie4Acans
Date Posted: December 02 2013 at 10:30am
Josh, I have a few questions as I am building a 40b as well. First, if you were doing this again would you still go with a center drain and an over the back return? Or a different configuration?

Second, what was the main reason for changing the sump from a 20L? What is the size of that new sump?

Are you manually dosing or are you not having to dose the tank?

Any more details on your light setup and what colors you are running on it?

Thanks!

I like my overflow and returns the way they are it's super quiet and for the sump the new one is 60 gallons the only reason I'm doing that one is it's going behind the wall and I wanted the extra space I don't dose anything on this tank and I'm doing once a month water changes the lights is a DIY from rapid led I'm running white and blue and green and red and 4 uv.

It's kinda hard to explain it but if you ever in north Ogden your more than welcome to stop by and I could show you

Posted By: Krazie4Acans
Date Posted: December 02 2013 at 11:05am
It looks like you started with a single return on the right and then changed that to dual returns on on each side.

I was thinking about one 3/4 inch hole in each back corner. One for the herbie and one for the emergency drain. and then one 3/4 hole in the back of the tank in the middle at the top for the return. That way I don't have to work my rock work around the overflow box in the middle and the two overflows in the corners would be angled across the corner and not square. I figure that way it might use less tank space and help with not leaving dead spots in the corners that the flow can't get to.

I get to North Ogden every once in a while (usually when I go to Harbor Freight ). I'll let you know the next time I'm heading that way.

How many drivers are you running on your LEDs? I'm guessing they are pwm dimmable since you are running a Reef Keeper?

I'm running 3 drivers there not dimmable yet I plan on building a new fixture one that looks better I'm running 2 returns cause I'm trying the use all return and no power heads for flow

When I was switching over to the new sump I got really sick and was stuck in bed and apparently my heater stopped working and the temps got down to 67 and I'm assuming it was that way for a couple days till I was able to check on it

Did the heater actually break open to the water or did it just stop heating? The reason I ask is because tank water in the mid 60's would not typically cause all that coral to die. A discussion might be helpful.
