Someone during the reeftour asked me why my standpipe in my overflow (90 gallon) was so quiet. This is due to my Durso pipe modification:

Works beautifully and is very quiet (got me some points with the wife  )

I have also used the Durso standpipe, and it makes a big difference.

Any ideas on the crashing water noise over the overflows?

Yeah - adjust the length of your standpipe to raise the water level in the overflow (while building the Durso standpipe of course). My overflow used to have a drop of 4 inches and sounded like Niagara falls and was terribly noisy. now it is just half an inch or so and you can no longer hear it.

Good idea - I will have to try that. I don't have a wife to get points with, but maybe I will be able to hear my company when I get someone to come over.
