Sorry, I am just jumping into this so I don't know all the details.

What chemical/supplement did you use to raise your magnesium?

How long was it in PPM when you started raising it?

What is the reading now? And how long ago did you add the supplement?

Using kent tech m ,used about 1/4 of 64 oz.put some in last night more this,moring with 0 change ,it did raise the salinty to 1.027 1.028,is this going to hurt things,should i add more or use distilled to lower it to 1.025.

Sounds like your test kit is bad.  How old is it?

I'm confused. You're getting 0.10 magnesium??? That's not right. You should be getting around 1200-1600ppm. The scale doesn't go down to the tenths place.

If you use 0.9ml (0.1ml titrant remaining), then your magnesium is at 1800ppm. You're too high! Stop dosing!

It shows on the chart you start out with 1.0 then you keep going till it changes blue which is below the chart which shows the last of the reading is .38 which is 760 and it below that reading is 0.1 which is below 760 which is 0.380 probaly 0.325,im folling what the manual shows.

I know...I haave the same kit. Did you add 0.9ml and have 0.1 left? Or did you use 0.1ml, having 0.9ml leftover?

Ok, that means you had 0.9ml used. The chart says, "titrant used". 0.9ml is off the chart and corresponds to 1800ppm. You have high magnesium, not low.

Then your Mag is 1800 and is high not low. The more titrant you use the higher the Mag level is in your tank.

FYI, this discussion began here because of a stressed Euphyllia:
http://utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=73848" rel="nofollow - http://utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=73848

Looks like the Mg never was a problem, as evidenced by the good Coralline Algae growth(pic below). I believe too intense light is causing the problem with the Octocoral, which may also be compounded by the high Alk.

Aloha  Hug

Here's what I recommend.
1.  Leave the tank water completely alone. The Alk and Mg will come down on their own just from the Coralline Algae and the animals using it;
2. Unplug and remove that 300 Watt heater. See the last 4 or 5 posts in this discussion for the reasons why:  http://utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=73827" rel="nofollow - http://utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=73827
3. Reduce the MH lighting. For example, set the MH timer to come on at 4PM and go off at 8PM, the hours when most people are home and viewing the tank. Leave the t-5 lights coming on and off as usual and when it's time to replace the 6500 Kelvin MH bulb, check if the ballast will handle a 150 Watt and make it a 10,000 K or 14,000 K bulb;
4. Unplug and remove the chiller because with less MH lighting and a lower baseline temperature, it will no longer be needed;
5. Remove and replace the API Bio-chem-zorb with ordinary AC, that resin is not so good for a reef;
6 When the the Poly Filter is spent, do not replace it, but keep any unused pads for special needs.

Aloha,
Mark  Hug

As promised, below are Jacques Cousteau pics of the predominant blue lighting provided by the sun in the depths of the ocean. LPS and Soft Coral are normally found living at 10-60 ft. Clams have even been found at 60 ft. because they need food as much as they need light. Under the 250 W MH more phytoplanton grew which fed the clam. I suggest http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/c6/Tahitian-Blend-Reef-Tank-Formula-c59.html" rel="nofollow - Brine Shrimp Direct(BSD) Tahitian Blend Algae Paste for feeding clams. We are so lucky that BSD is in Ogden.

Also high salinity levels are a bad thing. I lost corals when this happened for less than a day. I recommend adjusting your salinity as it can cause issues.
