My wife stopped by Aquatic Dreams and brought home a Yellow Eel Goby as a surprise gift for me. I've never seen one before but this one is beautiful. Im in the process of learning about their care reqs and curious if anyone else has kept one? |

Yellow Eel Goby (Brotulina fusca) Family: Bythitidae (Livebearing Brotulas) Natural Range: Indian Ocean, Western Pacific Ocean Depth: 3 to 98 ft. Size: 4.5 in. Jumps: Yes Space: 30+ gal. Reef Safe: Caution Care Level: Difficult Temperament: Peaceful Diet: Copepods, small crustaceans Natural History: The Yellow Eel Goby is a secretive species that is found on rocky reefs hiding in cracks and recesses. It is nocturnal, hiding by day and feeding by night. It has gone by a number of scientific names, and may also be found named as Diancistrus fuscus. Husbandry: The Yellow Eel Goby is a rare species in the aquarium trade. It should be provided a small system with a few pieces of live rock that allow for easy observation and feeding. It may starve in a large system. Night feedings may be required to allow this species to thrive in captivity. There is one in the divers den on liveaquaria. Ask Mike Savage. He or his son has or had one recently. I researched them before. They can be quite shy and often hide. ------------- 150 gal reef with 50 gal sump. Reef Octopus DCS-200 Skimmer. AI Sol Blues. |

Brotulids are definitely cool, peaceful, and VERY SHY. I hope you get to see it every month or so. -------------  |

| So far she (im pretty sure its female cause it doesnt appear to have claspers) hides in the same spot that i snapped a picture of. At night when the moonlights are on she will adventure a few inches away from her cave. I havent noticed her eating much as of yet but im going to try to entice her tonight with some freshly hatched BBS. |
