Hey guys, I just got 2 new battery backups for my Jabeo wave makers. Wondering if any of you have ever used these or what your methods are to keep everything alive during power outages. The batteries claim to be able to run a powerhead or return pump for 24 hours (or 2 pumps for 12 hours). I bought two of them. I haven't decided yet if I will keep them hooked up to both of wave makers or if 1 or both would be better used backing up my return pump. What do you guys use? Anything from manually stiring your tank with a wooden spoon to a 4000 watt gas powered generator running in the driveway? I have a battery operated air pump. It supposedly can run for a day or 2 but I better be home if the power fails. The air pump should keep things alive until power comes back on in a normal situation. ------------- 60g LPS Cube |

Be careful with these. Mine was a different company, but it's the same battery. I had mine on my pump for 2 months. I was home, no power outages, no surges, nothing popped on any breaker. I hear a BOOM, like a gun shot and this thing blew up. LITERALLY blew up and my fish room smelled like smoke. I contacted them about it and I was thinking they would want it back so they could figure out what happened. Customer service literally shrugged their shoulders and said "It's a battery, it happens" and they offered to send me a new one. I declined, cause I don't trust them. Wow! That's nuts! Sounds like they are cheaply made, I kind if got that impression from the website where I bought them and the cheap packaging. Maybe I will leave them unhooked but charged, away from the tank. Then if they are necessary I could hook them up but they won't be plugged in 100% of the time. Thanks for the warning! |
