March Tank of the Month
Tim Fowers

This month's aquarium, owned and maintained by Tim Fowers, is nothing short of breathtaking. Tim is a recent convert to saltwater, having freshwater tanks since he was 12 years old. If this marvelous
piece of aquatic art is any indication, Tim is a very fast learner! This tank is spectacular!

The tank itself is a glass 29 gallon. It is lit with a wonderful warm combination of metal halide and actinic VHO, which accent the water with a gorgeous, natural glow. It is filtered with a deep sand
bed inside the tank, and a hang-on skimmer outside the tank. It contains some incredibly biodiversity, a bonus achieved by all Fiji live rock. Tim adds a 2 part alkalinity/calcium additive to keep water
parameters in check.

Tim has an excellent viewing set up for his masterpiece: A stool that puts the viewer at tank height! As I sat in this awe-inspiring place, I couldn't help but think I could look at this tank for hours and
not see all the incredible life forms. One of the first things that caught my eye is Tim's dramatic long tentacle orange-tipped anemone, home to an amazing pair of mated cinnamon clownfish,
who produce eggs regularly. His gorgeous, colorful crocea clam is equally eye-catching, an incredibly healthy looking specimen. An adorable royal gramma and a lyretail hawkfish are very entertaining,
peeking out from behind a rock and drawing attention to all the other wonderful movement of the live coral background. Tim has numerous colors of small polyp stony coral, gorgeous and breath
taking in their own right. This tank proves that you can have a attractive, beautiful combination of soft and stony corals together in delightful harmony.

Tim was very quick to tell me that he has received many of his frags from club members, and he could tell me which corals came from which member! Tim also wishes to thank Sean at Aquatica for
spending hours educating him. He has a 7 gallon bowfront nano tank at his workplace, which has inspired his coworkers to strive for higher forms of marine preservation. Thanks, Tim! The WMAS
appreciates your participation in our club!
