Topic: anemone crab hosting in a frilly mushy?¿? Posted: May 13 2005 at 4:44pm |
I was wonderin if an anemone crab would host in a frilly mushy? I have two true percs but cant get an anemone because I have a 24g nanocube DX w/ 2x36w 50/50 PC's Ive bought a couple different mushies but my percs want nothing to do w/ them so I was wondering if the anemone crab would be likely to give them a shot?

I would say no...
I believe an anemone crab has a form of symbiotic relationship with an
anemone and by instinct uses said anemone as a safety device against
any predators.
Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the WMAS and the MB.
I always look at "active topics". I didn't care to answer the question at first, until you made a duplicate posting and I saw both of them right beside each other.
I believe your question may not have received much response because you made it based on some misinformation. I don't know how you came to the conclusion that an anemone was not good in your tank, perhaps an inexperienced clerk at the LFS...but a better question/topic to ask would be:
Anemone in 24 gal w/PC's?
The answer is: Yes!
Now, what else would you like to ask?

My anemone crab like to hang out on my leather. Before it was there it was under a branching hammer, a zoo colony, a clam, and some candy cane. I noticed it goes for where the flow is

I've got two anemone crabs; one hosts in a fuzzy mushroom and the other hosts a torch coral. The crab will find something to host when introduced to the tank, it is instinctive for the crab.

I did buy a condy on Saturday, but Im worried because on sunday night I noticed that the tenticals were getting fatter and almost clear..., it looked really good this mourning though should I be worried..., by the way the crabs look really cool in the anemone. one of them moved down to my big zoo colony though but it still looks cool

P.S. I read a little on nano-reef.com and if I dared to post that I got an anemone this weekend for this tank..., I would get torn to peices by a lot of people in there saying stuff like "If you even ask if you can put an anemone in a tank w/ pc's you are not experienced enough to have an anemone" and I havent found a single post on there that supports putting an anemone in my tank...., but the guy at aquatica and Xacttech(Richy) talked me into it so hopfully it will stay alive.

I hope it doesn't decide to take a walk! How did it look on your lunch
break?
We can put it in Erin's tank if it's mean. :)

Putting an anemone in a tank with only PC's can be a risky procedure. They acquire most of their energy/food/etc from their symbiotic algae. If you do not have the lighting to support the algae, then you MUST supplement feed with krill, silversides, etc. I have used a inch long piece of silverside once a week successfully. Be careful of feeding them too much though... they can grow quite large quickly.
You did pick the right one to start with though. Those anemones can be quite hardy.
