Anybody have any experience with that led lunar cycle timer setup thing? I'm getting one unless someone knows of something better.

If you do end up buying this, please post a review. It looks like something I'd like to try.

I have a coralife 4x65 with lunar lights. I love it.. I also have it set up to a coralife dual timer powerstrip. very convenient. i only regretted to not just save up for a few months and get a few halides. but some things are more expensive that one can afford.

Bruce, how do you like your incandescent moon lights? Do the corals floresce with these? Also are they too bright or do you use a dimmer? Ok, one last question Do you use the lunar cycle on the neptune?
Thanks,
Mike

I couldn't figure out from the description if it uses true moon rise and moon set times or if it just changes the brightness and moon rise/set is always at the same time of day (night)
The Neptune lunar cycle uses true moon rise/set times so sometimes the moonlights are on during the day and off at night.
I would be tempted to go the the cheaper version (on ebay) that just has a dimmer on it. I would like to just have moonlights on when my other lights are off so I can see what's going on in the tank and see the corals floresce.

Why get that? It's a fancy gadget that serves no useful purpose, IMO.
Something better...tell us about your tank and I'm sure we could suggest something. Increased circulation, a wave or surge device, live food, etc, etc.

It doesn't follow the rising/setting of the moon like the Neptune does. It's constantly on and only varies the intensity every 24 hours (I'm assuming) for a 29.something moon cycle. You still have to set it up to a timer if you want it off during the day when other lights are on.
thelebos.com has a timer that says it'll turn on/off the moon lights with the rising/setting of the sun. I'd rather it be according to the rising/setting of the moon, so I'm not getting their $30 timer.

Already bought it : ) I thought it was cool enough to spend the money on, it's like a living self-varying night light and I heard it can be good for coral spawning or something, plus it just seems like it'd add more realism to the tank inhabitants and scheme even if only aesthetic.
Feel free to give me more suggestions on what to buy for my tank though! A week ago maybe I put in a SCWD closed loop submerged in the tank under the sand with a Mag 7 running it. The mag 7 is incredibly loud and the flow is pretty weak in my opinion, but then it looks strong when blowing against the algae that's starting to grow on the rocks.
That and my Mag 3 return are the only circulators I have in the main tank. Do I need more? Right now I'm only planning on softies like xenia and those green star polyps that I saw in your main window tank. Maybe an anenome and a clam if there's one that doesn't need MH and can subsist on my pc/indirect window combination.
Below I have a big refugium/sump that looks like it might be 20/10 gallons with a 3" dsb of mostly oolitic in the 20g refugium part (maybe for mangroves in the future if I can increase the humidity/temp back there [I'm thinking of putting a plastic semi-covering cap over the sump to create a mini-sauna/tropical rainforest]) Then I have a CPR HOB mini refugium that intakes from the main fuge and outflows into the sump where I'd like to grow some macroalgae or something else. 3 or 4" of oolitic in there too. Maybe it's 2.5g? In my sump I have the Mag 3 return along with a CPR skimmer that I don't have running yet (need another venturi adapter that's coming tomorrow) and if I need to I might put the turbofloto 1000 in later).
I have lots of water oxygenation going on via major ripples going on in the maintank due to 2 1/8" anti-siphon holes right at the surface from the return, a 2" water fall from the mini-fuge outlet into the sump. I don't mind the trickling/gurgling noises they make, they're kind of soothing.
hmm, that's all I can think of right now. My tank's still cycling with high nitrites.

I'll be anxious to hear how you like the moonlights and how easy they are to install. Keep us posted.

I read your post and figured that you have quite a lot going for this new tank. It might be good to let it stabilize and grow for six months unaltered as far as equipment is concerned.

I love the effect and coverage I get from the inconcecent lights. To me it looks very natural.
I am using the lunar cylce on the neptune. I am very happy with it. If you already have the neptune anyway it is a cool and inexpensive addition.
