Topic: Anyone been to Myrtle Beach area? Posted: July 28 2004 at 8:48am |
Hello all:
I am going to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina for a week on Friday. Has anyone been there before? I was quickly searching on the internet trying to find out if they have good snorkeling there? I also found they have a Ripleys Marine Aquarium there (http://www.ripleysaquarium.com/SummerCamps1.asp). They also have one of these in another town I will be visiting on the same trip. Has anyone been to one of these? How does it compare to Monterey Bay Aquarium?

A few highschool friends went, but I don't remember them saying anything about snorkeling. They did enjoy the jetskis and boats though

I did a google search and typed in myrtle beach snorkeling. I received a ton of hits. Looks like they snorkel and scuba diving. I can't imagine being by a beach and not looking in the water. Susan

I spent 11-years in NC and have been to MB many, many times. As a matter of fact, I got married on the south end of MB... Yes, on the beach. IMO, the best time to go is Bike Week, but that's just me.
There are alot of things to do there, but not much coastal snorkeling that I remember. But, I wasn't there for the snorkeling back then. Have a blast and get ready for the humidity. Beautiful place though... I sure do miss it. So dang green out there.

Yeah, I went to Myrtle Beach about 8 years ago (before I was into snorkeling) and remember the water being really dark. Nothing like the water on the gulf.

Yes, but she lives inland, perhaps up near Greenville, but spoke of going to the ocean to collect things for her tank. She eventually got in touch with local hobbyists and a club closer than SLC. Call me if you want her #.
