wash it with bleach only, and if you have an "extra rinse" cycle on your washer i do that on mine as well.

I flip mine inside out and wash it with bleach in the washing machine, then put it through a few rinse cycles just to be safe. I spoke with MSM marine about washing filter socks and they advise against it. They said that your phosphates can increase because of the other detergents you use will leave a thin film on your washing machine. However, I did a poll on reefcentral and 90% of the people on there said that they wash theirs in the washing machine with bleach. The other 10% said they flip theirs inside out and rinse it with a garden hose. I prefer the washer because you can just drop it in and the bleach makes it white which is a good indicater when it gets dirty to wash it again.

I do the same as Lyscer.  Every week when I do a waterchange, Mine gooes straight from the sump to the washing machine, Turn it inside out and use a half cup to two thirds of a cup of bleach and wash it. Then when its done, I wash it again without any bleach, just to make sure there is not any bleach or residue in it. I keep four on hand and alternate them week to week.

I don't use any filter floss bags or any kind of particulate filtration.

I usually spend hours picking pods and snails out of the bag in the mean time I let the washer run empty then throw in the bag and wash it with just plain water hasn't ever let me down yet.

I used to wash mine in the washer with just water, and the extra rinse.  I stopped using my filter sock though about 3-4 months ago, and things look just as good.

No filtersock here either unless I stir up sand  or other cleaning jobs.

In that case I just scrub it by hand in flowing water until it flows clear.

I hate using a filter sock but I get some air bubbles back in my sump so I use it for bubble prevention. My wife somehow talked me into a $1500 washing machine that has a sanitary mode. the washing machine has a built in water heater to boost the temp to 180 degrees which makes the sock coming out almost completly white which is nice. just don't tell her I wash anything from my tank in it, or she will get.

I swear dear, I didnt buy any more corals, they just multiplied!
