Topic: Borrow VHO Bulb(s) Posted: March 08 2010 at 2:45pm |
Does anybody have a 48" VHO bulb or two that I can borrow for a very short time? After inspecting a bulb one day, I reinstalled it but couldn't get the whole ballast to turn back on after that. I'm hoping it's just a bad bulb and would love to borrow a spare from someone just to see if that's the problem or if I have a bigger issue. Color is irrelevant.
Not real urgent as I used the event as an excuse to upgrade to MH, but now I have a 4x48" fixture just wasting away that I'd like to troubleshoot.
Thanks!

I have a one/many that you can have. If you want to come pick them up I will be home most of the day/evening. You can call me at 541-505-4974. If you need a new VHO setup I am going to be selling mine very soon.

Well, I may have celebrated prematurely, as the 48" bulbs Downhill Biker so graciously gave me are actually about 2" longer than the 48" bulbs my setup needs. I'm sure it has everything to do with my green endcaps vs. Downhill's gold endcaps (though I can't really fathom why the two are sold as the same length).
Dion, or anybody else, do you by chance have a bulb or two with green endcaps that I could borrow?
Thanks!!

I'm actually looking for the shorter ones. What color are your endcaps?

blue and gold. The color indicates which bulb they are. (actinic, super actinic ect)

Hmm, the plot thickens. Yep, you're right, all of my endcaps aren't the same color (my actinics are gold, my 10k's are green). I went for the tape measurer this time around and also checked the labelling on the bulbs. I found the following:
What I have/need: 45-1/4" (excludes pins)
Label on bulbs (regardless of color) indicates FR48T12
What Downhill Biker has: 47-1/4" (excludes pins)
Label on bulbs (regardless of color) indicates FR40T12
Dion, do you by chance have something that's 45-1/4" long (excludes pins) and/or reads FR48T12?

Yes I have the short ones. They are made to fit inside a 48" hood for like a 75/90 120 ect. They are 45.25. I found the best price is to be had at Mountain Shadow marine. The 48" like Curtis has is for use in 6' tanks for retro use.
Your more than welcome to try one of mine to test your system.
.
edit do to my crappy wording
