They plug into your 120V and when your power goes out it switches it on. They only run when power goes out. Run off 2 D battery's. Best part. Only $9.99

 After loosing corals / fish while at Yellowstone this year Its got me thinking these could be life savers if the power goes out. I ordered a few of these but am wondering if anyone uses or has had any experiance with these air pumps.

What i did for my tank: i went to best buy and bought a battery backup for a computer and you can run a power head with it when powers out. For about 6 in a half hours, it cost me 40 bucks.
