I was following this product for a while on RC, looks like its here in the states for sale now,
 
 
Basically its a carbon based polymer that is slowly consumed, a vodka/sugar/vitamin c dosing without the daily/twice daily dosing hassle.  It seems to have a lot of promise for sps/heavy fed tanks.

maybe when i'm not poor....

I've considered vodka dosing, but i'm gone way too much to keep on top of things, i don't have too much of a problem because i'm running a commercial sized skimmer but with 12 tangs that eat six sheets of nori a day its an option for the future.
 
It's a bit pricey but cheaper than what they originally said, they have 10% off right now too, so about $50 to try on a small sized system.
Another thing is this sort of a carbon based approach doesn't help much if you don't have heavy skimming as the bacteria will just form mats in your tank if they are not skimmed out.  They actually were using these to house hard to keep sponges/tunicates which feed on the bacteria....
