Does anyone know of an SPS that grows better under lower light than high light MH's?

Mark, I would check w/ GARF .. I think they have SPS that do well under
VHO. I know that the "GARF Purple Bonsai" does (and looks) great under
VHO.

Yes, I am fond of Leroy and Sally Jo for that and many reasons. I was wondering if anyone here, besides me, had any SPS growing under NO Fluorescent lights.

I have sps under vho and they are doing well! I'm just waiting for my ballasts and they will be under 14k 250 watt halides

I have two small Acro frags in my Nano Cube with 48W PC lighting. They
have great color and are polyp'd out all the time, even under just the
moonlights.

I was going to buy a Deep Sea Yellow Gorgonian Tree from "From the Sea", but he asked what lighting I had and said my MHs were too bright. The Deep Sea version preferred lower light.
He still had that piece the last time I was there and only wants $20 for a 6" tree.

Well kinda.
This SPS was rescued from strong MH lighting at Aquatica where it was dieing. It only maintained under VHO and sunlight in my 75, but has slowly increased in size since I moved it over to the fraggin tank 3 weeks ago, about 8" directly below two NO tubes.
Then, in an effort to increase the output of those lights, last week I replaced the ballasts with a WH-7 so now the tubes are overdriven. I'm not sure that could be considered true NO anymore.

If I may make an assumption and a comment here. That Gorgonian is not averse to higher light, it's just in need of conditions where there is as much zooplankton as algae/phytoplankton, conditions that few tanks with strong lighting can or even attempt to accomadate.
If I were to keep that coral, I'd buy or grow a dense gallon of rotifers to feed every week, at whatever time of day or night the polyps seemed to like best.
IMO, Lack of food (animal/zooplankton) is why you don't see many of these lasting long in anyones tanks.

I had Acropora doing fine under my NO lights. It just wasn't growing much. When I switched to MH, it didn't change the health of them really, they just started growing like crazy.

I've noticed there are 2 different versions of these in the stores. He was very specific about the fact that this one was DEEP SEA Yellow gorgonian, and that in the sea it was naturally deep enough that it didn't get much light.
He was specific about the fact that it was not the normal kind you see in LFSs and that this variation was much harder for him to get rid of becuase it's polyps only come out in low-light/no light environments. (which it is why it's only $20 and still there)

Mark is right. I couldn't load a picture of my yellow gorgonia but it took two rounds with this type of coral before I (may have) figured it out. These are predatory corals meaning you have to feed it and from what I found they can be picky! I also have a red (that is actually purple) both are diogorgia spp?
Anyway, I tried feeding but the only time the polyps came out was when a powerhead on a timer came on and blasted them (light or not) which made it difficult to feed, but slowly they stopped coming out at all. thinking that all was lost I basically gave up. Then I started a brine shrimp tank and tried placing the corals in this tank but it didn't work. I finally place these corals in my sump as a last ditch effort to save them and it seems to be working. The dead or dying areas seem to be coming back. This sump is something else though with all the life in it. I'm not sure this is really surprising but I have a very healthy supply of mysis shrimp!
Bottom line. These guys are tuff!
