Some people use acrylic rods or pvc. I like the rod idea less noticeable. What I have seen done is people get acrylic rods like 3/8 or 1/2 inches thick and attach it to a sheet of acrylic using weld on. Then place the sheet under the sand. You then drill holes in the live rock and stack it up the rod. To raise the bottom rock just cut a small piece of acrylic and drill a hole in it the width of your rod. Then slide it so the rock would be a few inches above the sand and weld it in place. It would take a few structures leaning on each other to be stable. It sounds kinda like a pain in the butt but it would look super clean. If I were to do it that's the way I would go. Dion has a suspended reef you can ask him how he did his as well.

Are we talking suspended or stacked rock?
I used acrylic rods to stack my rock. Drilled a 5/8" hole through each rock and used 1/2" rods to secure my rock. Going on 7 years now and has worked great. I even dismantled one stack to extract a 6" Bristle Worm, then stacked the rocks back into the same exact place. Worked like a charm.

I would do what Wicked said, thats what I plan on doing actually. You can also use nylon all thread and nylon bolts so you can tighten it all together. You can also use a mortor mix to put inbetween all your rocks mixed with a little bit of sand to make it look like one large structure instead of a pile of rocks. If you go to www.marcorocks.com he has a little how to on the subject.

Sorry, it's not for sale.
It's on display next to the pile of LBTR/Utah Rock and Utah Oolitic sand that we do sell.
Feel free to call and come see it. Someday I'll get around to taking a pic of it.
Also not for sale but available for viewing is a PVC-Acrylic Rod suspension frame that looks even better. It was used for suspending the huge red rock on the left side of this reefscape (not the Vida Rock Halalluah mountains of Pandora, they are floating on their own ).
