Topic: Lighting or Flow Posted: June 27 2012 at 3:39pm |
I am trying to decide what I should upgrade first. I have a 75 gallon tank that I am going to be upgrading to a 220 gallon (72x24x30) pretty soon so I am starting to buy things that will be going in to the new tank and can help my tank right now.
Lighting:
Right now I have 6 t5's over the tank and they will be due for new lights within a month or so. I am going to be putting Led's over the new tank I know it will take between 3 and 4 depending on brand that I go with. I can get 2 units now for my 75 gallon.
Flow:
My 75 gallon has a 700 gph return pump and 4 (2 500gph, 1 750 gph, 1 1600 gph) power heads. the power heads are controlled with my apex. I will be getting 2 Mp 40's for the new tank but could get one now for the 75gallon tank.
The problem is that I only have the money for one thing right now. Is there one that is a better option than the other? Please explain.
Thanks for your help

I would vote for the MP40 upgrade now over the LEDs using the following logic:
LEDS may get cheaper or improve technology between now and the time you set up a bigger tank; the MP40 most likely will not do either of those things between now and then...

I agree with Bob, and on reef tour I asked Brad (tileman)1 question, "of all your equipment reactors, mp's ,etc what made the biggest improvement in your tank ? " He said it was adding the mp's ......just my thought of what i would do

I run a 6x54 with 3 blue+ , 1 purple+ , and 2 coral+. the coral plus are new and I added those and deleted a 6500k white and 1 blue and couldnt even tell the difference but the growth seemed better . was just curious

I vote for an mp60! I have 2 mp40s on my 120g and I find myself wishing I had slightly more flow.
