I was talking with some of you about this in general topic but I figured I'd move it over to here.

I found this, and was curious if it is capable of providing the lighting that I am going to need?

Are there any other MH setups that can be had for less that $200?

I'm a student on a budget and can't really afford much more

Hello everyone,

It'd probably work. I say probably because there are some things to be considered.

FREE items include one 175W double ended HQI 20000K & two 18W compact fluorescent bulb actinic blue

Good luck finding a replacement. THEY don't even sell one. From what I can tell, NO site sells a 175w DE bulb. Ok, here's the trick: They're using a 175w single ended ballast to drive a 150w double ended bulb. Apparently it works. However you should be aware that mixing bulbs and ballasts opens the door to a variety of problems. Different bulb coloration and shortened bulb life are a couple of potential issues you could experience. Regardless, I consider the ad misleading at best.

Beyond that it's a cheap product. I wouldn't trust it right out of the box. Personally, I would redo all of the electrical connections before firing it up.

Hope that helps,

Chris

I seem to remember a large thread about these guys on Reefcentral.

I think I remember that people were getting their items, but they were _really_ cheap. Cheap plastic, cheap ballasts, etc. Just be forwarned.
