    Posted: May 28 2005 at 9:19pm

My poor starfish has been actuing strange lately...its a blue linkia aboutt he size of an outstretched hand in a 55 gallon tank....lately it has been moving around a lot more then usual and somethign has been coming out of its middle hole thingy for a while now...  it looks like a long wormlikething, however it is mostdefinatly not a worm, i have a feeling its its insides because its not going in..its spewing out.  I have no idea what to do.

Ive had my giant hawaian feather duster for over 6 months and ive noticed a very distinct change in its crown diameter. Close up it look slike the tips aree simply falling off.  right now the feathers are all uneven and brittle looking.  i picked up the rock it was attached to and found several bristlye worms that i took out ...could they be eating my worm and making him sick

if anyone knows anything about these two things could you please answer I dont want my inverts to die

Bristleworms only eat dead or dying/decaying tissue.  They don't attack and kill healthy animals.  I would guess something about your tank isn't stable or "right" and both the starfish and the feather duster are "sick" because of it.  Please give us more info about your tank.

Temp (day and night), PH (day and night), salinity, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, alkalinity?  How is the water flow?  Any recent additions of fish medicine?  Any fish die recently?  Does the water smell good like the beach or does it have a bad smell of any kind?  Do you have young children that could have put a foreign object or substance in the tank?  That's all I can think of for now.  It's all yours Mark.

Could be part of the problem.  But I'm thinking that lack of live rock or lack of life on the rock could be the problem.  Those two items are not the easiest of things to keep.   Sorry

Welcome to the WMAS MB. You have come to the best place for answers and help in improving your reef aquarium.

How old is the tank?

What is the Alkalinity?

Sea Stars are gonners within 6 months in most tanks, even 2+ year old tanks.

Nitrate is lower in tanks with a deep sand bed and algae. How deep is the sand bed and what kind/size of sand. What types and amounts of algae are growing in this tank?

Red slime remover is unnecessary and can hurt stuff. There are better, natural ways to reduce Cyanobacteria.
