I seen these fish and think they are way cool. I have read a little bit about them and was wondering if they are a hard fish to keep. And if people had a hard time with them when they got them to get them to eat? thanx

They are more difficult. We have one in our tank and he does fine but I have heard they are harder to keep. How long has your tank been up again? I cannot remember me

I also have a watchman goby. He is hilarious to watch. Everyone has told me to get a pistol shrimp as they pair up together..:). Not sure the details but I am thinking I will get a pistol shrimp. A lot of people love the blennies as well :). I want a jawfish :)

I wouldn't get a scooter blenny till your tank is at least 6 months old.

I had a scooter blenny for about a year and he disappeared while I was away on business. They are actually dragonets and similar to mandarins in their care. You need lots of pods for them to snack on throughout the day. This was my favorite fish at the time, tons of personality and always on the move looking for something to eat.
If you're going to get a scooter make sure you have a pile of rubble where pods can grow and supply him with natural live food. I never saw mine eat prepared foods but it grew pretty big living on life in the tank.
Here is a pic. I loved that fish.

I think one of the big problems with them is their name. We call them scooter blennys but they are a type of dragonet. We should call them scooter dragonets. They feed, swim, and behave like other dragonets (mandarins, targets, green spots) and are often finicky eaters. No where near as difficult as a mandarin, but still a fish that needs some attention to tank setup and feeding.

Amphipods, copepods, and isopods are little buggs that live in the sand, live rock and algae in your tank. As your tank matures you will see them on the glass first thing in the morning when the lights come on.

Amphapods and copepods. You can get live cultures from most LFS. Also if you get some chaeto from some club members you usually get some along with it just because they hang out in it.

They will come by themselves on live rock, corals and algae but if you're going to have enough of them to satisfy a dragonet you will need to provide a place where they can breed without being hunted. That's what the rubble pile is for. You can also grow them in the refugium and feed them to the tank.
