So I get home from the meeting tonight, start dinking around in my tank, I was looking around down in the sump for a couple of minutes, when I came up, there is this cloud of specks in the display tank. I look closely and there are 1-2mm tiny clear shrimp swimming everywhere...about one every 1/2 inch in the entire tank!

I think its from my pair of skunk cleaner shrimp as under the loupe thats what they looked like.

I scooped a bunch out and put them in the fuge in what I am sure will be a vain attempt to save a few before the fish ate them all.

Any one else ever have this happen?

i have never had the opportunity to see the babies. my shrimp constantly carry eggs, but i only have 2 and they both carry eggs...so i am assuming i have no male to fertilize them. i just look at as free food for the corals.

I figured it was a unique opportunity. I think it might have had something to do with the lights being off for a couple of hours and then when I got home from the meeting, I turned them on again and about 15 minutes later, this happened.

I don't know about the coral eating them, but the five chromis went nuts!

Happens all of the time. I believe they are on a 14 day cycle. Unfortunately they will not survive. It takes the most absolute environment for the little guys to grow and our tanks just don't come close.

I keep several peppermints in my refuge's just for the free food. Every thing eats yummy things.

Ya, I am sure it has happened before I just never saw it. That's why I think it had something to do with the "false" night with me turning the lights back on about an hour after they went off.

I'll bet they now regularly spawn for you every two weeks (like Dion said).  But knowing when it will happen, and when the lights go off, make it unlikely you'll see it again.
