Alright, So i have a Condy that I got about 2 weeks ago.  It's been doing great.  It found a nice spot in the back of the tank on the side where it's alone and leaving other corals alone.  The first scare i had with it was when it shrunk itself to dispell all the water and waste in it.  Of course i had no idea what was happening and this was shortly after a water change so I thought I did it in.
2nd scare happened last night.  I feed it some squid which it didn't like.  It held onto it for a bit then let it go.   After that it sucked it's whole body inside and had 1 tentical sticking out which eventually also went in.  Anybody know why this happened and/or what it was doing?    This morning it was out and looking normal so all is well.

It seems to be something that they just do.  Sometimes they shrivel all up and look terrible then they puff back up.  Mine do the same thing.
Vipers look cool at a distant, but be careful of the bite..its a killer!

Still to many cool stuff not enough money

My Condy's the moodiest thing I've ever met!  The poor clown that's hosted it sometimes gets to cuddle up to an orange ball and sometimes to full soft cuddly tentacles.

Right.  The 1st shrivel freaked me out and i thought I killed it  so I talked to the LFS and they told me all about it.  But i have yet to see it close up like it did last night.
But yeah, I love my Condy too.  It gets so big and the pink is an amazing color and it really is full of life.  Hopefully I get some clowns soon, and I really hope the will start to host it too.

thanks guys,  it's good to know that he's acting the way he should be.   I told the guy at my LFS that i was getting a condy and he kinda frowned at me and said that only 1% of anemones ordered will survive in the tank.  I doubt this is true but kinda scared me at first.  But my guy is doing great in my tank.  He loves his fresh shrimp.

LOL  that was exactly what I was thinking.  if something doesn't take to a tank very well and this was my first time putting anything in there then I feel bad cause he isn't going to last very long.  And that's horrible killing the first thing you put in the tank.  Talk about a disappointment.  So yeah, i think he was feeding me a line for some reason.

from what I understand when they close up like that they are "pooping"
just from what i have been told. I have seen stuff come out when mine are like that, so mabey it is true.

I have two different condys and they both have acted just like you are explaining.  Don't worry about it until they start "melting".  It is just what they do.  The one that I have that is the same color as its base seems to be the moodiest.

Anemone's have a terrible track record in tanks.  Sometimes it doesn't seem this way since most people are now getting the ones that do well in our tanks.  Bubble Tips and Condies are two of the best to have in a tank.  They have a far better track record than others.

One thing to note, Condies are not host anemonies in the wild.  Therefore many Clownfish will not host in them.  Some will in tanks with no other anemones out of desparation.LOL  My Gold Stripped Maroon will sort of host in my Condies, but not the same as if it were a Bubbletip or Carpet.
