Topic: what would you do? Posted: January 19 2013 at 10:35pm |
So just picked up my new tank today and would like to take my time to get it setup exactly the way i want. but i wold also like to take my old tank down and get it out of my way. should be simple right? well my dilemma is what to do with my fish? i could sell them and start from scratch but like many of you i'm kind of attached to them and i know they are in good health so it would be nice to be able to add them to the new system when it is ready.
so what would you do?
option 1 sell fish and start from scratch when the new tank is done.
option 2 keep old tank running even though it may get neglected from not having enough time to work on both.
option 3 is kind of a long shot but try to find a fish sitter to hold them till the new tank is ready. (any takers? lol)
I apologize in for any spelling or grammar issues. i've been up way to long today lol.

Agreed , that or option3. Just keep your stuff because you never know if you want to keep a fish or something

Depending on size, I would have room for some of the coral. The fish are another matter though.

I really don't have much coral that is going into the new tank. Just a couple small birdsnest frags and there are 2 pretty big rbta's that are about 6-7 inches across when open.
Fish are Pair of clowns 2 blue/green chromis 2-3 inch sail fin tang Melanarus wrasse Starry blenny And a cleaner shrimp

Appreciate the offer but I don't think I will have time to drive that far. If you are ever closer to salt lake please let me know and maybe we can work something out.

you could keep both and use your old tank as a temporary QT if you've ever had ick or anything in the past. Move over all the live rock, corals, and inverts to the new one temporarily...

I would go with option 2, get your new tank cycled using some of your live rock, water and a cup or 2 of sand. Then start adding a few things to the new tank over the next few weeks.
Thinking more about it I would sell the blenny and wrasse. What size is your new tank going to be.

I would love to keep the old one to use as a qt but I don't really have room for a qt that size. Current tank is a 72 bow front The new one is a 130 rimless. I could probably get things going and move everything relatively soon to the new one but I would rather take my time setting it up exactly the way I want it before having any livestock in it. I will most likely go with option 2 but I just can't get the idea of selling the old one to be able to get some new goodies for the new one out of my head lol.

Jaschall what is the reason for selling those two? The blenny is actually my favorite fish in the tank..
