ok, so far the tank is rocking along nicely. Very quiet, good flow, fish are doing well. My issue is this.
So far I have had a small Chromis end up in the filter sock and die. I have had one very small clown fish end up in the drain and end up dieing in the sock due to the hard flow. I had another small clown go down the drain escape the sock and end up in the sump, unharmed. I just found my Onyx Clown in the drain area and when I tried to get him he went down the drain and I opened the valve all the way and had removed the socks so he went unharmed into the sump and I moved him back to the tank.
Has anyone else experienced this of smaller fish going down the drain? Is there a way to stop it? Or at least slow it down. My tank with the flow needed for the 300 puts a huge amount of turbulence in the socks just from the volume. If I don't catch the fish fast in the sock they die.
I had that problem, small fish and snails would go down the overflow in to the sock to their untimely death. I use rain gutter guard zipped tied over the overflow teeth. You can get a roll from Home Depot (or I have some extra I can give you).
