I picked up a used euroreef from eric last night and got it up and running.  Its a little unclear to me however what the "optimal" setting for the adjustment tube is/should be?  do you want it as low as possible but still above the water level? does absolute level make a difference (which means i have to adjust the water volume in my sump)...  the manual online sucks so its not clear what the optimization prodecure should be.

It all depends on how much stuff you want to remove from the water.  The more you want out the higher the tube.  At least that is how it worked on our Euro.  A cup a day (of skimmant) is what alot of people recommed somaybe shoot for that.  That is running the skimmerr 24/7.   Remember that a skimmer takes out both good and bad things.  Check out Mark Peterson recent post on going Why no skimmer.  There are some really good pro and con opinions there.

Thanks for the tip, I just wanted to verify that is how it was working and the higher the water level in the sump the higher the "minimum" setting is for the euroreef as a result.  I've actually run my system skimmerless for 2 years now but decided to give it a go and see if there is any noticable difference with a high quality skimmer on the system.  will be an interesting test.

I set mine fairly low.  It still skims but the skimmate I get is very think and gunky.  When I set it higher I get quite a bit of liquid, but not very gunky.  I prefer to empty thick gook every 2 weeks or so rather than thin green water every couple days.

Actually I believe optimal is probably somewhere right in the middle.  Take some time and do very small adjustments one way or the other until your happy with it.  By "some time" I mean several weeks.

It also helps to keep your water level of your sump consistent which is something I'm not really good at.

I'm very happy with my skimmer.  Is yours a true Euroreef or an ASM like mine?
