Topic: CA protein skimmers Posted: April 29 2005 at 11:36am |
Anybody have any experience with CA skimmers, ie: Trident 3000 or Super Vortex?
They're more than $100 cheaper than the ASM 2. But are they good machines? Money talks but so does nasty skimmate.

Never heard of them. Can you post a picture or web site that show's 'em?

Check it out. Perhaps it comes with an underpowered pump. But the design looks good.

If it actually looks like this when operating:

And is 6" x 25", included the pump and costs $139, then I'd say it's likely a good deal.

The other one for $109, looks like it would be a mess to use. All those hoses make it look complicated like people would think it's better, but the low price makes me wonder if it's a waste of money. probably hard to adjust and lacking in effeciency.
This coming from a person that hasn't used a skimmer since 1998, but is ready to hook one up just to take note of how much difference it makes.

I know you have ASM at your store, Fire Shrimp. They are killer and I'll probably wind up getting one. I'm just researching to see if this CA thing is as good as the other stuff. The price is right, that's for sure. I don't believe you always get what you pay for.

I agree its really hard to say if its a good skimmer till you have one in hand and see if it works. There are some things you can see about the skimmer and say that will or wont work.

My ASM g 1x ROCKS!!! IMO, that skimmer may be great, but maybe can be pretty pricey when ASM is nearly guaranteed.
