Well, I've been able to graph the data that I have, this is the 11:00 hour on June 19? 2005, the three Chan(nels) of data: As you can see, it's not much to look at. I have FreeType all ready to go so I can actually put labels on things, and I can clip the data to fit just inside the graph (very simple), and figure out a nice way to add those friendly grid bars and labels for the times and temperatures so that ... people can ... look at it, and stuff. The thing can be optimized, I'm sure, we're just a ways away from doing that.

I've been sidetracked for some time, the next steps are to generate a prettier graph from a speficied time and date. I also need to create a way to 'timeout' the last data received, so that if there's no data for a specified space of time, it's easy to see.

I've been able to add some grid lines to the graph and some text, I think it's looking pretty good. I think I need to have a border around the text (like a solid colored background) to make sure it's legible):
Also, I don't actually have a salt-water tank (just yet, plenty of tanks around the house ready to go.) I'll have loads of time to make sure I do my diligent research (I'm a numbers and technical guy) before I take the plunge (omg bad pun!) I'm very curious about your setup, what device you use to monitor these tanks, etc. I've had somewhat of an idea for a serial device or somesuch integrated circuit to control / monitor tank things as well. It's mostly Sukie's hobby, but she's persuasive and has dragged me in to it :)

Looks good Wudan. Is it possible to make the 3 readings show up in differnet colors? Let me know if you need me to send you a data file with more data points to do a test run. At this point it looks very usable.
Also, If you are curious about my setup, why dont you come over and check it out. I can give you some pointers about setting up your tank as well. PM me and LMK!!!

New data would be good, I'm particularly interested in figuring out how I'm going to do graphs that lead from one day to another and I have a pretty good idea of how I'm going to generate the graphs quickly for large data files.
I'm on top of the whole channel thing, each will be able to have different colors for sure :)
LMK? I thought I knew them all :(

Ok posting it here didnt work. It took up the entire page. So i uploaded it here http://www.geocities.com/amohyudd/ah.log THe name is how its generated by the program i.e ah.log
As for a graph showing multiple days. I think that a 7 day graph showing readings approx every hour will work, so the scale in the above graph will have to be widened to 7 days.

Ok, I've added a lot of command line options and worked out some tricky stuff, and came up with this: I'm able to change all the colors around and change the graph length. That's 7 days. I think I should put text at the top that says the time of the graph and the length of data it shows. As you can see in the lower left hand corner there's some overlap because the times and temps are printed on the inside of the graph, but that's how I wrote it, so I guess for now it's bearable.
