I have some things in my tank and i dont know if it is good or bad i have soem shrimp lookinh things there smaller and they swim backwords and then i have a worm like thing its red and when you take it out of the water is fuzzy i have took the rock out that they are comeing out of and put it in another tank so can some one tell me is this good or bad stuff plz
the worm thing is good, they are called bristle worms. some people take them out but most people leave them alone, as far as the shrimp thing that swims backwards I'm not sure. maybe someone else can chime in.
The worm is a bristle worm and is a good part of your clean-up crew. They can also leave bristles in your finger that can be painful so it is best not to touch them. How big are the little shrimp? They could be pods which are good.
yeah bristle worm bristles in the fingers is quite irritating. But i do like having them. I have one thats over 18 inches long when he stretches out. its cool to watch him scroung for food.

Depending on how long your aquarium has been established, chances are you either have copepods or rotifers in your tank. Both of these organisms are a highly beneficial part to any salt water tank. They are a great food source for a number of different species such as scooter blennys and mandarins. Like said above the worm is most likely a bristle worm. They are very common and most salt water hobbyists will have an encounter with them eventually. Now bristle worms are a very confrontational subject. Views go both ways, good and bad. Bristle worms are voracious eathers they eat almost anything they can find such as detritus, some coral and various things out of your rock. You can debate for hours whether or not they are truely good or bad. In my eyes they are simply just undesirable. Not fun to look at and when you get hit by one its like you just stuck your hand into a bag of insulation. There are ways to get rid of them, worm traps, various fish such as a six line wrasse or you could just physically pull them out.
just a warning when trying to pull bristle worms from rockwork if you tear apart a worm while trying to pull from rock the remaining piec or pieces of worm will regenerat and continue to live. I read this once and was curiouse so i cought a worm cut into 3 pieces and low and behold it lived and had 3 worms living for a week till my wife got sick of looking at them and they then got flushed.
