I just bought the bubble tip anemone on Saturday. I was just using the two small 24" cheap florescent bulbs that came with the used Walmart complete 55 gal kit that I bought off someone. I just switched to a 48" Coral life130w w/ 2 65w 6700k compact florescent bulbs that I just bought, installed and ran for about 4 hours on Tueday. The cheap Walmat lights had been on for about 8 hours before hand. He hasn't been two happy with the new light.  I also have some purple mushrooms that weren't too happy at first either. The mushrooms I think are coming around but the bubble tip anemone shriveled after running the lights for 3 to 4 hours this morning. I turned the lights off for 4 to 5 hour and he was happy again. Then turned them back on for about 8 hours and he seemed ok with it, but maybe not too happy but he did eat the krill I gave him. Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

The lights might be too bright for him, but he can move to a more likable place in your tank.  Those lights are good for your tank, the bubble tip will adjust fine given a little time.

Good luck,
Bill

Under you first lights the Bubble tip will likely get smaller and smaller until it is gone.  It will get used to the new lights in no time at all and they will help it thrive and grow.  As with all photosynthetic animals it needs the brighter lights.  Power compacts are about the minimum for good health in a reef tank.

Anemones will sometimes shrivel up as you described for seemingly no reason at all.  They are simply resting and often times excreting.  Look at what your other corals do at night.  Most of them shrivel up pretty small too, especially the mushrooms.  There is usually nothing wrong with them and they will be back to their usual beauty soon.
