i have a small brown things on a rock. i thought they were just brown star polyps, but now im not sure. i've looked at manjos and aptasia and they dont quite look like either, but when you touch them they close quickly like an anemone. i have some pics but the files are to big to upload. any idea how down size them to upload?

some of the things on the left in the pic look kinda like really small aiptasia. I almost wonder if they are a type of hydroid. Not sure but it would give ya something to research that might help. Chad.

What?! You pooped in the refrigerator, and ate the entire wheel of cheese?! I'm not even mad.... That's actually amazing!

I would move the rock in question to an isolated spot in the sand, colonial hydroids sounds familiar--a lfs had some one time and they started taking over the rock, then more rocks, etc. Just think of it as miniature xenia. Search google for them, and images and you'll find some good links.

If they are hydroids I would nuke them. They can sting (I just recalling this from when I had a sea horse tank) and for smaller fish that can be a problem. With mine they spread like crazy. The upside is you can use horse wormer to kill them (cal ranch and IFA carry it). It is pretty harmless to the tank other than it will kill astrea snails and bristle worms (wether you like them or not). I had hydroid jellies that did cololnize (free swimming), but if I remember correctly the treatment was the same. I can look up the exact wormer if you are interested.
