I just wanted to put out there that I HATE emerald crabs with a PASSION! I noticed that some of my zoas are disappearing.... so I sat there last night and watched... the dang emerald crab came out and snipped of about 15 heads in one go and started to eat them!

Today I researched and found that the females are known to do that! BLOODY THING! I hate it with a passion, I need to get it out asap! grrrrrr

Red emerald crabs are supposed to be less likely to eat corals.

The root of the issue is that they are crabs and they are opportunistic feeders. Mine has been a model citizen, however many people have reports of their emeralds turning on them. I do supplement my emerald with extra Nori that it loves to chow down on.

Knock on wood I have never had this issue...I love watching my emeralds but I would spear them immediately if i saw them eating any coral...even one time.

Straighten a heavy fishhook and mount to the end of a dowel...then...well you get it...

I haven't had any issues with mine. But I make sure that they have plenty to eat so they don't turn to eating my corals.

Why do we add Emerald Crabs to our tanks? To clean up Valonia? But once it has done it's job; if the tank is cleaned of algae then it is natural for a crab to turn to other food. I only add them if there is a definite need. I don't know why, but I've always thought it good to have a pair of 'em. They stay busier that way and don't mess with odd stuff.
