Is it normal for a starfish to mess with an anemone? I have two starfish, a common sea star and a red brittle starfish. I also have two anemones, a rose bubble tip and a Haitian purple tipped anemone. I have witnessed twice now the common sea star literally climb into the rose bubble tip. It appeared to be trying to take the krill I had feed the anemone. Also recently both my anemone have started moving around the tank quite a bit. I don't know if it is just a coincidence but it seems each time one of my anemone has moved I find the red brittle star in it place. I don'tknow if the starfish are just hungry and are trying to find the food I feed the anemones or what. I have been feeding the red brittle star silversides and krill from time to time but I haven't figured out how to feed these to the common sea star.
It sounds to me like it can smell the food on the anemone and is going for it. Not too common, but then again not uncommon. Sounds like an annoying trait you'll have to put up with.
i would feed the stars more often, i feed my serpent everytime i feed my eel and everytime i feed my eel i feed the anemones, fish, and sun corals. everybody is happy nobody is fighting for food except the hermits.
Does anyone have some suggestions for how to feed a common sea star? My red brittle star I just dangle food next to it and it wraps it up and eats it but that doesn't work for the common sea star.
