Topic: Online Ordering Posted: August 11 2004 at 3:26pm |
Just curious but has anyone purchased from www.liveaquaria.com ? Their prices are reasonable the guarantee is good and the shipping is free... I'm considering placing an order but wanted to see if anyone had any experiences with them.
Thanks

I don't really care for that company... but they sure get a lot of business, including some from our club members.

I had good experiences with liveaquaria.com quite a while ago, but that was awhile ago and before they were bought out by Dr. Fosters and Smith.

I have had mixed exp with them.
They have a no hassle guarantee, but once you get down to the basics and factor in shipping charges, they are the same price as buying local, and local you get to hand pick stuff.
Good outfit, great for dry goods, but trust your local shops to treat you just as good if not better, many will match or beat prices on bulk orders.
Go in to a store and tell them that you are going to spend 200.00 on livestock and that you want a deal and you'll generally get it, not to mention that club members get discounts at must local shops so buying from them is a no brainer when it comes to fish anyway.
Good luck!

we have several good shops in the area. why not buy from them? when you figure it out they charge the same and if you order from them they take the chance of something dying not you. i have bought several things from eric, sandy and shawn in orem and they are all still living

I've purchased from LiveAquaria.com and have had good experiences with them both times I bought from them.
Other good places are:
www.coralsandbar.com
www.saltwaterfish.com
www.blowfishaquatics.com
www.thesea.org

i have also bought from live aquaria.com and had good experiences with them. everything i got was in good shape and stayed alive. as far as free shipping goes.... if you are getting a cleaner package or something along those lines that comes with free shipping. be sure to double check the standard price ... they have two price schemes and the packages are up-priced to compensate for the shipping.
as far as their price vs. local price ... i think the prices usually end up being pretty even with the exception that you can get it delivered to your door, which i sometimes like. the other thing i REALLY like is being able to get the specific fish you want ... i really wanted a black perc and couldn’t find one local ... anyway my .02

Have you tried e-tropicals? I had a very good experience with them. I bought my original clean up crew from them. For dry goods you might try marine depot.

Personally, I also like the online stores that cost MORE than the local stores. Simply because some of those stores have great company philosophies (that are in line with what our club stands for) and I like to support them. One that comes to mind is seeing Suzy order from OceanRider because they are tank raised and fed frozen foods. I've never ordered from them, but I do like premiumaquatics.com, and you just can't beat Morgan's facility inlandaquatics.com which is a great store with a great guy.
As for cheap online stores, well I don't care to list any because I think you're better going local.

I have made one order for livestock (cleaning crew) from an online store and never will again, possibly with the exception of GARF but I wouldn't call them a store anyways. I just didn't have a warm fuzzy about it.
As some others said, there are just WAY too many benefits to shopping locally. And, most of the LFS's will price match or be competetive. Just go in, talk to them and give them a chance!

I have bought most of my cleaners online... much cheaper. No problems at all.
www.saltwaterfish.com
www.liveaquaria.com
www.etropicals.com
Got some corals from GARF and had a very bad expeariance but everything else I got local... if I can consider SLC local. The only good thing IMO in buying local is you can see what you're buying.
