Ok well it finally happened, my Trigger and Tang ganged up on one of my Yellow Watchmen Gobies and tore him up. It looks like his tail fin was ripped off and that section is white not yellow now. So: -Is the white his flesh or is it just de/scaled? -He is still alive, should I put him out of his misery or will he ever rejuvenate any of that? I have him separated from the DT now but I am thinking there is no point. I guess I should have gotten him a pistol shrimp before now, but none of the fish have ever really shown interest in the gobies before this morning when I saw the two of them trying to eat him. I keep the fish all well fed if not over fed so starvation probably wasn't the cause. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that. If you have him in a hospital tank, I'd probably keep an eye out on him and see how it goes for the next couple of hours...some fish are surprisingly resilient. Perhaps a picture would help too? Not sure if its tail fin will come back or not.

^Unfortunately I saw it as I was heading out the door and had to move him and leave. You think if he is alive when I get off work there is a good chance he may make it? As of right now without that rear fin he really can't do much swimming, but they don't swim much anyway.

I would say if he is alive when you get home, he will probably be okay. Assuming he makes it, I agree with the swimming. You'll just have to make sure he gets enough to eat...treat him with kid gloves, until you know he is rehabilitated.

Would it benefit him at all in rehabilitation to have his buddy too?

Triggers are not completely safe with anything smaller than themselves. They like a good piece of meat. My guess is that it was one of two situations. 1. Either the Goby was in the process of dieing and they were simply choosing it for breakfast OR 2. The Goby accidentally got in the way of a much larger fish, probably the Trigger, which gave it a good nip and once the big hungry fishes smelled blood....
I once witnessed a large Tessalata Eel eat a large Volitan Lionfish simply because the Lionfish was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Lionfish had just sucked in a large piece of seafood gumbo (from the grocery store). Unfortunately the 2' long Eel as thick as your arm, had it's eye on that food too. The Eel, coming up from below, lunged for the food which a split second before had disappeared into the 8" Lionfishes belly. The Eel caught the food in the Lionfishes belly. With a quick shake, the Lion was immediately split in half. It's tail end went down the Eel gullet first, followed within ~15 seconds by the head end which had been sent floating nearby. Yes, that's right. The front half of the Lionfish, the part with most of the poison fin spines, was swallowed head first. The Tessalata ate it quickly with not even a hint of trouble then nor later. I'm telling you, it was amazing to witness.

I would leave him be for at least until he starts to eat again.

Thanks for the help. I hope he does well as he was very healthy. I think when I moved the tank downstairs he got seperated from the other goby so he has been looking for her. Probably was on the search and got in the trigger's territory. The trigger is by no means a hunter. I have only seen him be territorial, but never stalking etc.
I ll let you guys know if I have a floating goby tonight.

Yeah he died. Actually I think it was the female because the one that is still in the tank is much bigger. The Female rarely came out so I assumed the male had been attacked. Now the male doesn't even hide. I wonder if somehow some way he knows she died? He seems stressed out now.

Hopefully everyone moves soon. I am making some tunnels for the small guys to hide in for the 180.
