 Topic: Leaking tank

Hello,
I have a 24 gallon Nano cube that has a slow leak on the bottom back right side. I am not the greatest at fixing leaking tanks. I tried to reseal the bottom of the tank and it doesn't seem to work. The weird thing was I sealed it up and put water in it about 1/5 the way up and sat it outside for 3 days. There wasn't a leak in it. When I filled it up and put rocks and water in it, the tank was fine. Two days later it started leaking again. Any help would greatly needed.

You may want to pay to have this done, but here is what I do. Cut out all the silicone. Make sure it is very clean. I use a razor blade and then some alcohol after to make sure I have a very clean surface. If possible you will want to put a small amount of silicon between the two panes of glass. After you will need to make a uniform bead along the seams of the tank overlapping onto both panes of glass (use an existing aquarium for guidance). I use my finger to push the bead into a nice looking seam. Don't go overboard. Less is really more in this situation. I would rather go back and add a little extra silicone as I try to smooth the bead with my finger instead of having extra silicone spill out as I make the seam. Look for air bubbles/gaps. If done correctly you will not have any. Hope that makes sense. Good luck.

Also, the Salt Creep will only show up where it is dry.... This means that the leak may not be at the bottom of the tank, that is just where it is pooling and drying. Check higher since there was no leak when the tank was not FULL.

I had one that just plashed up in a small spot around the top rim and would climb over the glass and down. Super easy fix. Just put some silicone in that small spot.

I recently resealed a 2 tanks and had no issues . I cleaned as best i could using many razor blades. But where the salt creep was difficult to remove i used vegetable oil with salt as an abrasive to remove it and it worked great . (it also works great on cast iron and teflon pans). The salt will not scratch and acts like sand paper, then i cleaned with denatured alcohol before i caulked . Make sure to push firmly into the corners and if u tape the corners with painters masking tape u will get very clean corners. (remove tape immediately after caulking).

I had the same problem, Is you tank a jbj? if it is, it might be located in the back ....all the way in the back where you can't get at it. Eventually we had to trash it. And we bought a Oceanic and haven't had leaks. My husband was so mad. He resealed it 3 times, b4 I had the bright idea of putting freshwater in the back and salt water in the front. It came out fresh. We'd have to rip off the plastic that was attached to the back wall completely voiding it's purpose of separating the tank from the overflow. So stressful, sorry.
