Was able to get a pretty good pic of him. Do these stars reproduce by splitting? They never seem to have all their arms at full size.

KILL IT.

They are prolific and soon you'll have hundreds. They are reported coral eaters. I have them, and hate them. If you can, remove it before they become a problem.

Have you seen yours huring coral? I've heard that they are harmless and I've also heard what you are telling me. Anyone else have any experience with these things? Mine hitched a ride on a rock from Bird World.

I pull out at least twenty of them a week.... They are more of a nuisance than anything because they multiply so fast.  Now I have Bruce's (pistonfister) harlequin shrimp in my tank, on loan. So hopefully he will eat them all, and solve that problem for now. Harlequin shrimp are awsome btw.

Ive got several. Ive seen them in several other members tanks and when asked about them they have said to leave them alone. The only thing that they seam to eat is waste. If Ive been miss led please tell me.

I had hundreds in my tank and found no good reason to pull any out. They grazed on rocks and glass, never on corals.

I have a couple in my 12g nano and they don't seem to do any harm that I can see.  I've heard that if they get their full number of legs, they will begin reproducing like mad.  Mine always are missing legs.  Can anyone confirm this?

Here is a link to GARF's website:  http://www.garf.org/news26p2.html#STAR.  I first read about these starfish here.  I then spent a lot of time removing them from my tank.  I decided to stop wasting my time since I don't have any SPS corals.  Some people view them as a pest, others don't.  GARF recently updated their site with additional info found here:  http://www.garf.org/STAR/starfish.html
