Topic: How long do you give anemones Posted: July 30 2005 at 12:04pm |
until you deem that they just aren't happy? I added a green long tenticle into my tank a week ago and he has spent most of it sitting on his head. He moved into the back of the tank then over to one side and has just sat there on his head. I tried to upright him so he could attach to something but he just rolls over onto his head.

I hope so. I did the same for him as I have for everything else in my tank. Don't use the drip, but I do 1/4 cup of water into the bag with him until I double the water. Has worked very well for me until now.
If he didn't take to the acclimation what can I expect to see from him?

that MIGHT be it... he could be more sensitive then the other fish and
coral in your tank... Hope it works out. That sucks. maybe try putting
some rock around him Not on him just around him so he can stay up.

Well he has totally swollowed himself and I just watched what looked like a cloud of smoke come out of him. Any idea's on what I just saw? Did I just witness him pass away?

I have seen anemones do that before they die. Is the mouth gaping open?

Yeah he died. He expelled what looked like a stomach bladder and the smoke looking stuff was coming from a sore on his foot that had some stringy stuff coming out.

An anemone should attach within a few days. I would have advised you to give it no more than 4 days upside down, then return it to the LFS or ask someone here to take it from you. What are the Alk, Ca, N and I levels in the tank water?
Also, why do you dose trace elements?

I put the trace elements in on the advice from a local shop owner.
Alk: showed in the normal range on my test
Ca: was 450
I assume N levels are nitrate and nitrite?
Both are 0
And again I assume I is iodine? I don't test for it.

What test kit are you using for Alk, Nitrite and Nitrate.
How long has it been since you moved the tank and when did you originally set it up?
How is the filtration set up?

I have all red sea test kits. My tank has been up and running for a litle over a year, and we moved it 3 weeks ago. My filtration goes from a HOB overflow down to a refugium/sump, with a skimmer, then back up to the tank.

I don't know Red Sea kits much. Do they give an actual number reading or just simple lo-med-hi readings?
If you can provide actual numbers that will help evaluate the situation but the fact that the tank was moved just 3 wks ago does not give me warm fuzzies about adding an organism as sensitive as an anemone.
And my trepidation is not based on water params, which could be in line, but any time a tank is disturbed, even just removing and adding a bunch of LR it can take up to 3 months to re-stabilize.
What is growing in the Refugium and how well is it growing?
Hope this isn't too many questions.

The red sea test kit doesn't have numbers for alk. It just has a color chart that has high normal and low.
I have some chaeto, and some grape caulerpa right now, and it seems to be going pretty good. Hasn't grown a whole lot but it's growing.
