Red gorgonian or a red ball sponge? I wont the red gorgonian bad, would it work for a 10 or the sponge? If not, what would be cool for my 10 gallon?????
Both of these can be hard to keep. Most Gorgonians require so much feeding that it actually pollutes the tank. Most of the sea fans I have seen actually starve to death in the home aquarium. Sponge can also be difficult to keep. This of course depends on the variety. Some varietes do great and actually come on the live rock you would buy. These are the ones to look for.
Now the good news. I would look for types of sponge and gorgonia that have been thriving in peoples home aquariums. There are some gorgonia that are photosynthetic and will do great.
With the reef tour coming up I would take some time to visit some of the homes, find the corals you like, and ask questions. It is very importand to know that just because a store sells something doesnt mean it is a good piece for the home aquarium.

Gorgonians that have white polyps are nonphotosynthetic and as ewaldsreef said they are hard to keep.
Brown polyp gorgonians are photosynthetic and tend to be much easier to keep. IME they like lower current flows and nutrient rich tanks.
