Anybody used one of these for a return pump?  Or does anybody have any opinions on it?

That is big for a return pump. 1 1/2" inlet and outlet. 235 Watts. Most people use a smaller pump for the return and then use powerheads or closed loop for additional flow. Will your return handle 3000gph? It's not very likely. I also wonder how loud it would be indoors.

I couldn't find any information on head loss with this pump.  I was looking at the 2000gph unit.  It says max head height is 14' but is it 2000gph @ 14' or is it less?  I haven't calculated it but I'd bet my return can handle 2000gph. 

I hadn't thought of how loud it could be.  I'll probably just get another Mag-drive 18 or 24.  I just ran across this and was wondering if anybody had any experience with one.  Smile

I once toyed with the idea of using pond pumps for my saltwater tanks but after checking them out better I read that they are not saltwater safe.  It may be the screws or the impeller is made from metal that would end up messing up yours tanks.  I would check that out first before putting it in my tanks and make sure it is saltwater safe.  Freshwater pumps may be cheaper but in the long run may cost you more money.

I am not sure about the Mag Waterfall pump but the three pumps I have on my fish ponds all say not to use with saltwater and are freshwater only.  Maybe you can find out on line or call the on line fish store and ask.  Or just buy it and if it does not work build an outdoor fish pond with waterfall so the pump does not go to waste.
I use an exterior pump and push about 3000 gph through my system and always think I need more.  But for now it works just fine.  If you run both tanks the 150g and 60g with the same pump and use the same sump I think you would be fine with 3000gph.  I know there are members who push a lot more water than that through their systems.
