Hey there - Just noticed a little hitchhiker growing on my liverock. I searched around but couldnt find anything like it. It is too small so I cannot get it on my camera yet - however it seems to grow quite a but every day. It looks like a super small, deep margarita glass when open. It is flesh colored, and around 1/8" open, with a 1/4" 'stem'. It closes up at night or when it feels threatened. Any ideas? I'll try to get it on camera. |

| Sounds like some sort of worm. Maybe a feather duster. I wouldn't worry about it. A picture is the only way to be sure. Good luck... |

Frankly, I would be quite surprised if that is te only hitchhiker that you brought in on your LR. If the LR was handled decently, I am sure that there is much more to come. I concur with the crazy one, sounds like a worm. dows it quickly retract into it's tube when light changes or there is other motion? Does the margarita glass shaped part look feathery? Yeah, I think I got pretty lucky with my live rock. Lots of feather dusters, in fact there is also some sort of pink polyp with neon green at the tips that just started growing yesterday... kinda cool seeing things "pop" out. Here are a couple pictures of the mystery worm. There are some seriously minute hairs around the outer edge. And I have never seen it retract quickly, however it is always closed at night, and when my blenny or my snails are eating on the rock I always notice after that it is closed up. Anywho - thanks for the replies. You guys are great.

If you can tell by the pics - it is actually all tube - there really isnt anything sticking out of it like a feather duster. When it "retracts" it just pulls in on itself and turns into a little nub on the rock. The only feathery part is on the tip of the "glass" there are minute little hairs. |

| I have something similar to that--it looks like a long tube with small tentacles on it, but mine only comes out at night. I don't see it except for a bumb during the day. I think it might be some sort of anemone? Don't know. Just sit back and watch what grows in your tank now. I've found nudibranch, macro algae, jelly fish, polyps, sponges, star fish and many other things. Course I don't really have any fish to speak of (two ocellaris) so my tank is more or less predator free for all this stuff. |

| It looks like all flesh. What you dont see is that the stem goes back into that hole for another 1/2" or so. Sounds like what crazy tarzan has, only mine comes out only in the day ;). |
