Okay, how many times has this come up? But, I really wish that people would put their real location either in their signature line or their profile. Not this, Australia, Brazil stuff. I'm on message boards where people are from all over the world (as I'm sure most of you are). So, those people may be on this board thinking that someone that actually lives in St. George, Utah is living in Australia. Or someone that lives in Farminton is freezing away in Antarctica. So, at least get it in your signature line???
Seriously ... take a look at just the presidency. You would think we were a worldwide organization. It's amazing how far everyone travels to go to our meetings every month.

I agree...I wonder if the location on the profile is hard coded...Jake? BTW, Mike, how's life in Portugal?

It's actually the Azores Islands but that is not a choice. They are part of Portugal but still 1500km off the coast. Oh, yeah. Life is wonderful here
On second thought it is horrible. You wouldn't like it at all. Quite unbearable actually.

The location lists is in the include file select_countries_list.asp. In the IMAS forums I added a location for "God's Country (Payette River, Idaho)"
Thanks,

Amie. I have always concidered this to be a joke. I only put St. Vincent cause that was the church i used to go to before switching to St. Thomas More. I thought it was a funny joke hopeing i would get the question of if Im Catholic or not.
You do have a good point however i think we sould have citys rather than countrys avaliable. But this might be a chore to code so this is a great sugestion. This will be brought up our next Pres Meeting.
thanks Amie.

Of course it's a joke, I know that. The reason I love this group is because it's full of a bunch of hilarious people that keep me laughing. I just think that maybe putting your real location in the signature line might be appropriate for those that aren't from Utah but only see the message board. That's all I was saying.
It would be interesting to know how many people are on the board that aren't from Utah. Maybe I'll start another thread and ask.

I am a bit nervous about how much personal information I have about me on this site. I have strangers approach me in fish store. I get some really interesting phone calls, too. Just about seahorses, though, so far. I kinda want people who don't take the time to introduce themselves in person at meetings to not know where I live!
Seriously, those of us who go to meetings regularly know each other on a friendly basis, go to each others homes for parties and such, go on the reef tour or be on the reef tour, ect. Do we really care about what those that don't know us personally think?
I think that most of the locals take the time to find out where we live?

Wow, Adam. I plugged your latitude and longitude into google earth and it really is your house. I figured, just as a bad joke, it would be my house.

Amie,
The presidency considered your recommendation again. The main problem with adding a list of Utah locations to our drop down is upgrades. Each time a new version of the message board is released and we upgrade to take advantage of the new features / improvements, we would have to reload the cities. Rather than go through the added work, we thought it best to encourage everyone (ESPECIALLY PAID MEMBERS) to add their city to their signature line.

I thought the decision was to "remind people that they can simply look on the paid member list at any time."
