It was mentioned we should start a post here about creating a WMAS Calendar. Is it worth while putting the effort into. This would be a pretty big project. Would you be interested in one. Interested enough to buy one? It could be expensive to produce.

Mike

P.S.
I would pay $10 for one.

I think that's a great idea. We have the talent in the club to take some great photos, and there are plenty of beautiful tanks. It'd even be a great thing to have for sale during the reef tour!

with a new store being added to this site for WMAS Paraphernalia who knows one could be bought by anyone anywhere in the world.

I think it would be cool.  We could sort of have a "contest"...Members submit pictures they took.  We would have to put out specs on the image (size, megapixls, whatever), but I bet we would get more than we could use.

If we planned right, we we could put events pre-printed on it (meetings, reef tour, BBQ, etc.)

I think it would be great to produce a calendar. I know there are other calendars out there, but there is something about knowing that those pictures were taken from tanks you know that makes it that much better. I know I would buy one.

As mentioned in the other thread, It'd definitely be worth $10 for me. I what it would cost to print one. It may not make sense if it takes alot of time and doesn;t make the club any $$.

you might be able to raise the price of dues a few bucks and throw a calender in when people pay their yearly dues, it would make most sense most people pay in jan, greart time to get a calander for the year.

i would get one for sure

you could throw in tips and secrets to a succesful tank too, or somthing like that.

I would go $10.00, but my wife would want the calendar in November or December at the latest, so I'm not too sure about including it in the dues...she is too organized! Smile

It could be turned into a screensaver as well and put on CD - with more pictures available than the calendar and people could buy the CD as well. I don't think people would mind paying $10 for a CD either.

I personally don't think $10 is going to get a very nice calendar.  I pay $17 for my Land Cruiser calendar every year and it is large, with great photos of excellent quality.  I talked to the guy that makes it about doing one for reefs and he thought it would be a great idea, provided we could sell around a thousand of them.

Here is a link to the calendars:

I know someone who prints a calendar every year and sends them to family. It can't cost that much.

I think most of the cost involves paying the people who put it together. Lets get a few volunteers etc and the cost of material shouldn't bring the calendar above $10. I'd donate my time for picture taking.

The cost of a calender would vary greatly depending on the quality.  A fairly low quality calender, (something along the lines of what many of us could do on our color printers,) can be put together at Staples for fairly little.  My guess is around $10.  Higher quality glossy page calenders with high quality photo's could cost at much as $30-$35 for a small run, 100-250), maybe even more.

Wow! Thats a lot more than I thought it would cost. Doesn't anyone here work at a copy store and could get us a deal? ;)

Just for fun I checked out http://www.vistaprint.com - www.vistaprint.com   I nice calendar on glossy paper from them would run about $20 cost if 100 were ordered.

Apparently my high estimate was really high.  Although I'm sure we could find a place that charges that much.Wink

I was at a Kinko's the other day and they have calenders you can make with your family photos so I'm guessing it would work for this. I think they were like $18.

Shutterfly.com has them as low as $10 each if you order more then 50.
http://www.shutterfly.com/order/biz_ppp_products.jsp - http://www.shutterfly.com/order/biz_ppp_products.jsp
But again I'm sure it comes down to quality. Maybe we could make one up and order just 1 early enough to see if they are any good.

We love the idea of a WMAS calendar. We are a bit concerned about generating enough interest to sale an adequate number of calendars to keep the price down, but we decided to go for it.

The WMAS will sponsor a photo contest later this year (probably in September) to solicit photos for our calendar. More information and specific details will come later this year. But, start saving your favorite shots for submission!

Please also be on the look out for print options. If anyone has a contact or finds an incredible deal on this type of print service, please let me know.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I think you should sell both the calendar and the screen saver cd.  Make it a touch cheaper if you buy both at the same time, and for the contest, give those persons who have the main pics in the calendar a free calendar and cd.
