Anyone have any suggestions for such a thing? I bought this huge via aqua pump that pushes plenty of water but hums like the dickens'.

The ViaAqua pumps should come with suction cups - these should act as an anti vibration pad already?

It did and they are installed. Just still getting lots of noise, and hoping there was something else I could try. Oh well - guess I get what I pay for.

Go to a fabric store and get the densest foam you can find.  Wrap the pump in it.

Also - make sure that the shaft is all the way inserted into the back of the unit. There should be no wiggle-room between the shaft and the back. You would also want to make sure that the propeller is clean.

Yeah the impeller assy. is clean - I will double check the placement and fit of the shaft though.

Try an old mouse pad, if it's big enough.

Does the noise occur when the pump has no back pressure? Have you tried checking it in the sink?

I once had a pump where the impeller had to be in the proper rotation sequence or something I found that when I plugged it in if I gave it a short burst of momentary electricity and then quickly pushed the elecrical plug all the way in, the impeller seemed to get jolted into the right spin or oscillation or something. The noise would only come back when there was a power drop, which wasn't too often.

I'm doubtful that sponge/foam rubber will dampen sound underwater, but it will make good biological filtration media!

That's good to know. That's some info I'll hang onto. You never know when it could come in handy, like when playing the Aquarium Trivia game
