What sort of snail would have this color pattern? I set up a tank with some live rock and sand and this critter showed up one day. Tongue

Well, the pictures I see from this search does not match. The spiral swirls back to a pointy tip.

I was going to but it only seems to come out at "dusk" and the room the tank is in is quite cluttered and difficult to set up a tripod in. Cry Plus, with the son and wife begging me to get ready for bed.......

One more thing, the snail is about 3/8" long the best I can guess.

Sundial Snail?

OH! THAT IS CLOSE. The bands are solid black and solid white though. The apex of the snail comes to a sharper point too. Just think of a cone shaped barber pole.

Thanks for all the help on this.

Found another type of snail on the glass this morning too. Too bad it is late and I have to jet off to work. This one looks more like one of the suggestions made above though.

On this page

http://www.aquacon.com/snails.html - http://www.aquacon.com/snails.html

in the picture of the cerith snails there is a partially blocked one that looks like mine. At the bottom of the page there are some Bumble Bee snails that are close, but not black and yellow. The one in the cerith pic is closer. Wish it showed just a little better.

The partially hidden snail in the picture of the Ceriths looks like a bumblebee snail to me.

That is the snail in question. I do remember it having a more pointed apex.

Also, if anyone can identify the 3 crimson growths in the picture.......

Yeah, I thought it might be algae, but have been hoping it was some sort of coral popping out there. Thumbs%20Up

I bought some new rock that is covered with those same red things. I don't think it is macro because none of my fish have even looked at it. I am wondering if it could be sponge of some kind?

Yeah it would be but there is a lot of it so I have no clue. I guess we will have to wait to see when it grows out a bit more. Is your rock new? If so, where did you get it?  It also has a look of GSP.

That is what I though. Yes, I do have a small, free floating frag of it and I think there is also a small, orange zoa with them too. But I don't think you mean it is in that picture.

Those red stubby branching things are a soft coral that typically get no larger than that. I can't remember the name but I have seen them grow in our tanks for many years. One of our guest speakers confirmed it as well.

I'm fascinated with the color on the shells of what look like 2 bivalves (clams) in that pic.

Thanks.

Yes, I have watched them for activity and alas, they seem to be dead. Cry

I have another organism that I am currently watching. It is a round-topped red bump on a rock. Last night when I put some of my home made frozen food in the tank it protruded what looked like some stubby feeder like things. After a period of time it went back to its normal round-topped shape. Picture forth coming....

Decided to start another thread for this:
