I was just wondering if anyone know if strawberry crabs are reef safe?  Any info would be great as well.  I am out of town and have one and am just a little worried.

awsome.  That is so cool.  My wife just fell in love with the  little guy and I had to buy him.  So that is so good to know.  I love getting new inverts.  Thanks

We had one for a couple of months and he was fine other than killing an emerald crab. However, he was nocturnal so we rarely saw him and he just mysteriously died one day. He was huge so I don't think he was killed... maybe they have weird dietary requirements...

I say they are reef safe, and Fenner says they are not.
But we agree, they are way cool.

I have one in my 125, I see him once every month or two... They hide almost all the time...  Every time I think he's dead, he pops up again...  They are way cool though!

sweet this really takes my mind off of him eating polyps, Hopefully I didnt get the exception.  I agree they are way cool and he does hide alot but I think my wife knows his favorite hiding place so she sees him hiding every now and again.

I believe mine killed my emerald crab.  I caught him doing some suspicious behavior at night.  They're sold as reef safe, but my personal opinion is they are not.

I have two that came with my tank.   I do notice a large pile of snail shells underneath its favorite hiding spot, but my wife really enjoys having them.   Mine are pretty active right after the lights go out.

cool if they are more active when there is more then one then I might end up getting another.  What other inverts are awsome and reef safe that you dont come across very often?  I have the regular cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp, emeralds, hermits and serpent star but am always looking for some more.

Mike what do those need for care?  I have a mixed reef is there anything special that they need to thrive?  I dont want to get anything that I am not suited to keep for a long time.

I've not kept the Sexy shrimp. They are small and are scavengers that will even eat flake food. Porcelain Crabs are filter feeders and get plankton from the water column.

so that means I would probably have to feed phyto or something quite often so that the porclin crab could eat.  I will think about them but I think I might get some sexy shrimp

By the way Mike I cannot get enough of your pictures.  There is so much detail in them and they are always so clear.  Awsome Job

Thanks Dustin.

Be careful with Sexy Shrimp if you have any fish that eat small shrimp like Jawfish or Hawkfish.

Both Sexy Shrimp and Porcelain Crabs like to live in anemones but don't need to. The picture above is one living on a carpet anemone.

Fireshrimp are cool but I found them to be too shy and hide a lot.

That is what I have found with fire shrimp too.  They are super shy.  I dont have anything that eats shrimp so That will be good.  Ill look for some next time I go to town.

I also have a fireshrimp and a strawberry crab.  The strawberry i got free from hitchhiking on a rock.  I rarely see it.  The fireshrimp is shy but doesn't hide to the point where I rarely see him like the strawberry.

I'm wondering something though.  I have been having a problem keeping zoos.  Something is eating them and I don't know who the culprit is.  But whatever is doing it is eating them at night.  I have been suspicious of the strawberry but I can't honestly say it's him.

I also have 2 emerald crabs and 2 cleaner shrimp as well.  I know its not either of these because I see them constantly every day and they are never bothering the zoos.

Anyone else had this suspicion of the Strawberry Crab?

Dustin, you DO have something that eats shrimp. If the strawberry will eat an emerald I would suspect the sexy shrimp would be an easy target. I tried adding a trio of sexy's to my tank and I believe my thought to be dead peppermint shrimp did them in. Could have been my six line or Royal Gramma too, I guess. Sexy shrimp need an absolutely friendly environment.
